   There are many ways one can describe what a value or values means. People invest their time, energy, and resources into many different things and situations that they perceive to have "VALUE." This may range from expensive cars, expensive and fun hobbies, and other activities that are part of a person's lifestyle.  Their is certainly nothing wrong with having a balance in life that includes enjoyable activities and hobbies. 

   Unfortunately, as a function of our culture and technological age we live in, people have become increasingly more and more sedentary (physically inactive) and don't take the time to eat healthy. Many people don't place any "value" on exercise and eating healthy. As evidenced by their life style they don't appear to feel that exercise has much worth to them. The result is an epidemic of out of shape, unhealthy, and obese Americans. About a third of adult Americans are obese, and the obesity rate rose 37 percent between 1998 and 2006 (Associated Press Monday, July 27, 2009). According to the American National Center for Health statistics,Today, about 63% of Americans are overweight (men and women are about equally represented) with a BMI of 25 or more. Around 31% of US people (supplementary to overweight) are obese with a BMI in excess of 30. Compared to the past two decades, the percentage of childhood obesity in the US has more than tripled. If this trend continues, it is predicted that at least 1/3rd of US adults will be obese by 2020. The US surgeon general report reveals that morbid obesity is liable for thousands of deaths every year.

People as evidenced by this undeniable problem of out of shape unhealthy Americans strongly suggests that many people don't place a high priority or assign much VALUE to their "physical health" and "physical well being." 

Furthermore, and unfortunately many people do not become "Health Conscious" and start making an "investment" into their health "UNTIL THEY EXPERIENCE A "HEALTH CRISIS" such as a heart attack (myocardial infarction), being diagnosed with adult onset diabetes type II, being diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia, and or any other number of health problems that threaten one's life. Often it is not until something like this happens and one becomes confronted by their own mortality and the importance of the physical body's health, that then and only then they begin and try to make changes to their life style and start to exercise and eat a balanced healthy diet. 

When we are younger we feel invincible and our morality is not as salient of an issue for us. Aging is a developmental process and it's an undeniable fact. Your physical body will age and get older, however you can take steps to keep your physical body healthy and functioning at an optimal level if you invest some time and energy into exercising and eating smart.

As the old saying goes, "It's better late than NEVER."  While this is certainly true in that you're not too old to begin some form of exercise, it unfortunately for some can become "too late" for those who have completely neglected their health and physical bodies from a lifestyle of inactivity being sedentary and consuming too many calories from unhealthy food sources along with other preventable or modifiable risk factors that were ignored by these certain individuals. By too late this means those people who die prematurely due to an unhealthy lifestyle. 

Once a person is threatened with a "health crisis," It is amazing how ALL OF A SUDDEN, their "health" is now VERY IMPORTANT and now a great deal of  "VALUE" is subsequently assigned to their health.  Imagine that.
